EMIS began in the 1980s in a rural practice in Egton near Whitby in North Yorkshire. Dr Peter Sowerby and Dr David Stables wrote the software with the founding principle that the systems used by GP surgeries should improve patient care, and the idea of EMIS ‘written by doctors, for doctors’ was born. To this day, from knowledge support to interoperability, clinical research projects and free online services for patients, EMIS still puts patient care at the heart of every click of the mouse. Over 59 per cent of GP practices in England and 52.5 per cent of practices across the UK use EMIS software, a mixture of LV, PCS and EMIS Web systems. EMIS success has also included the EMIS Drug database that is able to provide state of the art drug alerting and is now used by EMIS clinical GP systems and other healthcare IT providers. The Drug database is maintained by a team of dedicated staff at our Leeds central office including Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists, clinicians and analyst programmers. Our aim is to make good quality, timely patient information available any time, any place, any where through interoperable systems. With over 20 years’ software development experience, EMIS is known for delivering systems and solutions that really work for our customers, coupled with market leading support and training.
