Established in 1979, Shaunaks Ltd are a Group of dispensing pharmacists, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). This is an exciting opportunity for a Relief Pharmacist based in Bristol, working across other Shaunaks Pharmacy Stores as required.

Duties & responsibilities: The role of the Relief Pharmacist (Group Support) is to cover the holidays of each Manager & Relief Manager over 8 - 9 regional stores within the Bristol region. It is a full-time position 52 weeks of the year. When covering the holidays, the pharmacist does the hours the manager would normally do.  Offers expert advice on the prescription and use of medications. Dispenses drugs to patients and provides advice on how to take them safely. Counsels patients on appropriate dosing and routes of administration. Supervises the prescriptions dispensed to patients to ensure their safety, quality, and compliance with applicable law. Sometimes performs wellness checks and administers immunisations in addition to traditional duties.

Main Duties

  • Dispenses medications to patients
  • Checks patients' prescriptions for accuracy and safety, ensuring no drugs are contraindicated with one another
  • Ensures legal compliance in the pharmacy, reviewing labels, doses, and procedures
  • Secures and inventories controlled drugs to maintain compliance with regulations
  • Supervises and trains other pharmacy staff, such as pharmacy technicians and assistants
  • Communicates with doctors about prescriptions
  • Advises patients on the proper use of prescription medication and answers questions about the drugs
  • Discusses side effects and potential adverse interactions of drugs with patients
  • Offers various wellness and health-screening services, such as blood-pressure monitoring, vaccine administration, and diabetes screening
  • Manages the pharmacy's inventory, staff, and budget
  • Remains apprised of latest pharmaceutical products, developments, and laws
  • Uses pharmacy computer system to maintain records and track inventory
  • Teaches other healthcare professionals about the prescription of various drugs

Skills qualifications and experience: Must be a qualified Pharmacist, with relevant experience, holding GPHC registration to practice in the UK.

Strong Maths and Science Skills, Excellent Memory, Interpersonal Skills, Good Verbal Communication, Detail-Oriented, Solid Understanding of and Respect for Prescription Drug Laws and Regulations, Supervisory Skills, Computer Skills, Ability to Work Closely with Doctors and Nurses, Analytical Skills, Multi-Tasking Abilities, Physical Stamina for Long Periods of Standing, Good Documentation and Record-Keeping Skills.
