Malcolm Harrison, chief executive of the CCA, explains the inspiration behind his career in community pharmacy.

In this podcast, he discusses his route to becoming a pharmacist from working as a locum in Cambridge to moving to London.

Mr Harrison worked for Boots as a senior manager and on the NHS’s development team, before joining The Company Chemists’ Association (CCA) – which represents Boots, Lloydspharmacy, Well, Rowlands and Superdrug, as well as the pharmacy arms of Morrisons, Tesco and Asda.

The podcast with C+D news editor Grace Lewis covers:

  • Tips for students looking to begin a career in pharmacy
  • Academic papers Mr Harrison helped produce as part of a community pharmacy project
  • His experience developing Boots' sore throat test and treat service with the NHS
  • How to combine pharmacy practice with retail operations as a store manager
