This position is available to start from mid-July to mid-September 2018.

N.B.  We are licensed by the Home Office to sponsor trainees who need to switch their Tier 4 Student visa to a Tier 2 General visa in order to complete their pre-registration year here.  For such applicants, the hours of work will be slightly lower and salary higher than that described below, in order to meet Home Office requirements.  Further information will be provided to applicants.

This is a full-time 12-month trainee position, in a friendly supportive and professional environment.  Our local community pharmacy dispenses about 6,000 NHS items per month and provides Advanced Services (MUR, NMS, NUMSAS, etc.) and the Smoking Cessation Enhanced Service.  The NHS dispensing includes a mix of batch (RA/RD), ordinary repeat and acute prescriptions. The majority of prescriptions are electronic.  We dispense medicines in dossett boxes to many patients, and operate a twice daily medicines delivery service.  We are an accredited Healthy Living Pharmacy, and so also provide advice and information to patients on public health matters.

We operate closely with our nearby sister pharmacy, which will also have a pre-reg pharmacist starting in summer or early autumn.  You will spend some days training there, to provide you with experience of working in another pharmacy environment, and their flu vaccination, needle exchange and supervised methadone consumption services.  They also provide medicines to a local care-home.  Altogether, we will provide you with experience of a broad range of NHS community pharmacy practice.

To broaden your experience further, we will arrange placements for you at a hospital and a pharmacist either at our CCG or in a GP practice.

You will also gain experience in supporting the sales of our retail product offering.  This includes skin-care brands such and La-Roche Posay and Vichy, cosmetics such as Rimmel, and discounted fragrances.  Our sister pharmacy also has a broad range of supplements, natural toiletries and health foods.

Your Training Plan will follow GPhC guidelines, with support from the ProPharmace programme.

Your tutor will be the highly experienced full-time Pharmacist Manager who will work with you on most days, providing ample opportunity for planned and ad hoc learning.  You will train alongside other experienced full-time permanent staff; a Pharmacy Technician and a Medicines Counter Assistant.  You will be fully involved in providing all the pharmacy services, including provision of advice and product recommendations to patients who present at the counter with minor ailments.

The pharmacy is open 9am to 6:30pm Monday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.  We'll expect you to be at the pharmacy for 40 hours per week.  In most weeks you'll be there 5 days, usually Monday to Friday.  Occasionally, we will ask you to be there on a Saturday.

Your salary will be £18,000 plus statutory pension, and you'll receive our 25% staff discount on OTC purchases.  During the 52 weeks you'll have public holidays and another 4 weeks off, and other days off for the 9 off-site Propharmace study days and final assessment.
