Role Profile:

Pharmacy Advisor is a flexible role which works across the healthcare counter and dispensary. They provide exceptional patient-centred care through product advice, health and wellbeing advice and showcasing the different services we offer to allow the patient to make decisions on their healthcare needs. There is a technical aspect to this role, as they will supply medicines and give advice to patients as part of the dispensing process. This role delivers exceptional life changing patient care within the healthcare area, always seeing the individual patient beyond the initial conversation or prescription.

Exceptional patient-centred care is at the heart of everything we do and as a Pharmacy Advisor you’ll be part of helping patients feel good. It’s everything from the clear advice and care you offer them, to the wide ranges of dispensing services we provide.

Within Boots we have Pharmacy Advisors and this is sometimes known as a Dispenser. To provide fantastic patient care as a Pharmacy Advisor you will work across the healthcare counter and the dispensary to where the patients' needs you most.

How will you do it?
With different types of pharmacies all over the UK, we’re giving patients the very best care and attention with the services we offer.

You will be providing healthy lifestyle advice and health services to our patients through great conversations as well as delivering the technical aspects of the supply of medicines.

This is often a fast paced environment in which you will interact with many different people and will be a core member of the pharmacy and healthcare team.

What you’ll be doing day to day
It’s all about providing health advice through focussed conversations with our patients, whilst giving clear and accurate answers.

Your duties will include:

• Tailoring conversations with every customer to ensure they leave your pharmacy feeling informed and confident about their healthcare needs
• Delivering the technical aspects of the dispensary whilst ensuring the safe supply of medicines e.g. ordering medicines, labelling, dispensing, endorsing and collection of prescriptions.
• Complying with legal and professional requirements and accepted guidance on professional practice in Boots.
• Seeking opportunities to engage with GPs and practice teams to drive services and items.
• Delivering efficient dispensary operations and ensuring dispensing losses are minimised.

Qualifications:

Trainee Pharmacy Advisor:
No qualifications are needed, they will need a passion for healthcare and be willing to complete a 6-8month Pharmacy Advisor Programme with us to become fully qualified.

Pharmacy Advisor:

They will need to have completed an NVQ Level 2 (QCF) in Pharmacy Service Skills or equivalent. Please visit the below links for equivalent courses:

For colleagues who have worked for Boots before, they should have completed either the Boots Pharmacy Advisor Programme (PAP) or Boots Dispensing Assistant Programme (DAP).

If you come across a colleague who has completed the Boots Healthcare Advisor Programme (HAP), they would need to complete the Boots Dispensing Assistant Programme (DAP) with us to become fully qualified. In this instances, check with your regional recruiter to see if the store will put them through this training.

Experience needed:

Trainee Pharmacy Advisor:

These candidates will probably not have any experience within a Pharmacy environment. We’re looking for people with a genuine passion for customer care, and who will be ambassadors for healthcare in our stores. They might have worked within retail before and had exposure working with customers/patients.

Pharmacy Advisor:

These candidates should have experience working within a Pharmacy environment whilst studying for their NVQ Level 2 and will have worked as a dispenser. Again we are looking for people with a genuine passion for customer care and who will be ambassadors for healthcare in our stores.
