Take your pharmacy career to the next level with an Independent Prescribing Certificate from the University of Sussex.
Taught over 5 weekends, our Postgraduate Certificate in Pharmacist Prescribing and Enhanced Clinical Skills offers you the opportunity to future-proof your pharmacist role and give you added confidence in patient care.
Successful completion of the course will provide you with a “Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing” enabling you to apply for annotation as a pharmacist independent prescriber with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Furthermore the course will equip you with enhanced clinical skills, tailored to your area of practice so that you improve your skills and confidence necessary to meet the needs of specific patient groups.
There are five weekend schools (Saturday and Sunday at the Sussex Campus, starting in September) and one assessment day (Saturday in May).
Subject to final accreditation by the GPhC.
The course covers:
- Consultation skills for prescribing
- Legal, professional and ethical aspects of prescribing
- Psychology of prescribing and the public health context
- Evidence – based practice and clinical governance
- Principles of pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, systems – based pharmacology for key clinical topics relevant to your role
- Physical examination and history taking
- Enhanced Clinical Skills: advanced analytical and critical reasoning as well as further diagnostic and patient consultation skills
