We offer an exciting and challenging opportunity for a customer- and colleague-focussed Pharmacy Manager for Health On The Hill, a well-established, friendly and diverse independent community pharmacy.  Health On The Hill serves a relatively affluent local population in the Richmond borough and is adjacent to the extensive Bushy Park. Your challenge will be to develop a range of private & NHS services alongside the core dispensing operation, while developing yourself professionally.

To start in mid-September or very soon after.

The pharmacy opens 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 3pm Saturday. We'd like you to work full time Monday to Friday, or similar. The salary is negotiable and will be influenced by days and hours worked, relevant qualifications, experience and professional achievements. An attractive quarterly bonus scheme is available.

We'll expect you to perform all tasks and responsibilities typical of the role in an independent NHS pharmacy.  These included leading, supervising and performing all aspects of the pharmacy's NHS, private services and product sales. You'll also supervise the work, training and development of other staff at the pharmacy, including a pre-reg pharmacist, a full-time dispensary assistant, a full-time counter assistant, Saturday staff (local MPharm students) and locum pharmacists. You'll lead the pharmacy's communication with other healthcare professionals and our patients' carers.  In all this, you'll be assisted by and cooperate with the owner and our superintendent, who also manages our nearby sister pharmacy - Hampton Hill Pharmacy.

We strongly prefer candidates who have been a registered pharmacist in the U.K. for at least 3 years, in order to be eligible to tutor Foundation / Pre-registration pharmacists, but more recent graduates are welcome to apply.

We currently dispense approximately 4,200 NHS items per month (90-95% electronic), which includes dossett boxes and a small care home. Most prescriptions are from nearby surgeries, so our patients are our local community with which our staff typically develop close relationships. While our nearby sister pharmacy dispenses higher volumes alongside a traditional retail product range, Health On The Hill complements that by providing a broader range of products and services.

Retail products include health foods and drinks, a broad range of supplements and herbal products, natural alternative toiletries, various local honeys and ecover refills.  Retail comprises about 25% of the pharmacy's income, and is supported by an EPoS system with full stock control.  Services to date include the typical NHS / Council ones (flu vaccination, NMS, smoking cessation, etc.) and private flu vaccination from our main consultation room, and private chiropractic treatment and massage from a 2nd larger therapy room towards the rear.

We have started to introduce various other pharmacist-led private services, including vaccinations, using PGDs where needed. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and develop these and/or other similar NHS and private services into a substantial part of the business, alongside reasonable area-average growth of NHS dispensing. Recent internal renovations (new flooring, repainting, etc.) and imminent replacement of frontage will support these developments.  We advertise our products and services using TV screens in the front window and above the main counter.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their ability to manage this diverse business and achieve our development aims. We will support the you in your further professional development that meets the aims of the business and your own personal goals.

COVID-19 considerations - we have implemented a number of measures to minimise the risk of Covid-19 to staff including installation of clear perspex screens across the entire counter, provision of PPE and hand sanitiser to staff, provision of hand sanitiser to customers, and limiting the number of customers in the pharmacy at any time.  Most staff have now received two vaccinations.
