Pharmacist - HMP YOI Doncaster

Are you looking for a new challenge?

Have you thought about working within prison healthcare?

Prisons are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work - if you’re looking for a role where you can develop your existing skills and learn something new every day in an environment that never stands still, then this is it!

The main focus of the work will be to provide a dispensary and wing-based clinical pharmacy service and work as the lead within the pharmacy department providing medicines management support to a number of different wings. You'll be responsible for the provision and delivery of an integrated, safe, legal, high-quality prison pharmaceutical service. Working closely with the Head of Healthcare and the multidisciplinary team, you'll be responsible for ensuring that the provision of service meets the contractual obligations.

The role also involves responsibility for providing daily expert advice on pharmaceutical matters and ensuring that a safe but modern medicines management service is provided to prisoners.

About You

You will be a qualified Registered Pharmacist- BSc or Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, holding registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You will have a real passion for developing your Pharmaceutical skills and those of your team. You’ll have a flexible approach to working within a team that encourages new ideas.

If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

Experience of working in a secure environment would be beneficial but not essential.

What can we offer you?

This is a full time role working 37.5 hour per week so you will receive an annual salary up to £45,000 per annum depending on experience; cycle to work scheme, uniform, training, development and employee recognition scheme.  We also offer a company pension scheme, 25 days annual leave increasing with service up to 28 days per year, plus 8 public bank holidays (pro-rata for part-time), shopping discounts, free eye tests for computer screen users, an employee assistance helpline and clinical development opportunities.

Other benefits at HMP YOI Doncaster include access to an onsite gym, free parking and subsidised café/restaurant.

About Us

Practice Plus Group are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

Healthcare is provided seven days a week, throughout the year. Services include first and second reception screening for new arrivals, triage and phlebotomy and vaccination clinics. Long term condition clinics are a core clinical activity. The role is varied, involving assessing and treating patients and carrying out effective care in an ever changing environment; responding to both their physical and mental well-being needs.

Our team includes GP’s, Clinical Leads, Nurses, practitioners and HCA’s and all our clinical staff are trained to deliver intermediate life support (ILS). Pharmacy is managed by our pharmacist and supported by technicians and assistants.

Please note that this role is subject to Practice Plus Group Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

At Practice Plus Group we actively promote diversity and equal opportunities and we are committed to this in both the running of our prison healthcare service and how we recruit our staff. We actively encourage applications from everyone with the essential requirements of the job, regardless of any protected characteristics.
