Pharmacist - Isle of Wight

The main focus of the work will be to provide a dispensary and wing-based clinical pharmacy service and work with the Lead Pharmacist on providing medicines management support to a number of different wings.

You'll be responsible for the provision and delivery of an integrated, safe, legal, high-quality prison pharmaceutical service. Working closely with the Head of Healthcare and the multidisciplinary team, you'll be responsible for ensuring that the provision of service meets the contractual obligations.

The role also involves responsibility for providing daily expert advice on pharmaceutical matters and ensuring that a safe but modern medicines management service is provided to prisoners.

About You

You will be a qualified Registered Pharmacist- BSc or Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, holding registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council. You will have a real passion for developing your Pharmaceutical skills and those of your team. You’ll have a flexible approach to working within a team that encourages new ideas.

If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

Experience of working in a secure environment would be beneficial but not essential.

About Us

HMP Isle of Wight is a category B prison that is based over 2 sites Albany and Parkhurst and has a population of 1100 prisoners.

Our two sites-based Primary Healthcare Centres provide a comprehensive primary care service, GP appointments, chronic disease nurse-led clinics, screening programmes, and health promotion work. An emergency response service to prison wings is also provided.

We believe in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history. That’s why we’re proud to deliver quality healthcare in some of the most challenging environments; care that is equal to what you receive in the community. We’re passionate about making a difference in the lives of prisoners by improving their health, securing their wellbeing, and helping to reduce reoffending behaviour.

We deliver round-the-clock healthcare to more than 40,000 patients at over 45 prisons of all categories. Prisons are a community like any other and we offer all of the health services any community needs in one place and with a single team. These range from reception health checks on arrival and regular GP services, to help with substance misuse, mental health, chronic or long-term conditions, podiatry, physiotherapy, and optometry.

Please note that this role is subject to Practice Plus Group Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to right to work in the UK, references, an enhanced DBS check, and prison vetting.

At Practice Plus Group we actively promote diversity and equal opportunities and we are committed to this in both the running of our prison healthcare service and how we recruit our staff. We actively encourage applications from everyone with the essential requirements of the job, regardless of any protected characteristics.

This vacancy will be closed if a sufficient number of applications have been received. If you are interested in the role please submit your application as soon as possible.

From 1st April 2022, it will be a legal requirement for all healthcare workers who have direct face to face contact with patients to be vaccinated with an approved COVID19 vaccine. This includes front-line workers, as well as non-clinical workers not directly involved in patient care but who nevertheless may have incidental and/or intermittent direct, face to-face contact with patients. As part of our recruitment to this role, evidence of vaccination, or clinical exemption will be required.
