About the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

We are a respected regulatory body that regulates pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and pharmacies in Great Britain. We work to assure and improve standards of care for people using pharmacy services. One of the main ways we do this is by ensuring the quality of pharmacy education and training.

We are proud of our diverse and inclusive culture and are committed to holding ourselves to the same standards we expect of others.

We are seeking to appoint 4 registrant members to the Board of Assessors, the body responsible for the GPhC’s registration assessment; the national examination that must be passed in order to be eligible to apply to register as a pharmacist in the United Kingdom. We are looking to appoint a registrant member who practices in Scotland.

The Role:

The principal function of the board is to maintain the standard and integrity of the registration assessment and ensure that it continues to reflect contemporary practice.

The remit of the board is to:

  • Ensure that registration assessment papers are reliable and valid;
  • Set and maintain an appropriate standard;
  • Agree results and ensure accuracy of reporting;
  • Report to the GPhC’s Council on the performance of candidates and papers
  • Advise the GPhC on the development of the registration assessment.

The appointment will be for four years in the first instance. The position is remunerated, and expenses are paid in line with the GPhC’s Associates and Partners expenses policy. Members will be expected to devote about 15 days to the role each year.

Applying for this role:

If you feel you have the required experience and skills please complete the application form which you can find on our website by clicking on the Apply button – you will also find further information about these roles here including details of remuneration. Incidentally a CV and cover letter will not be considered.

Location:  a mixture of remote working and also at Head Office, Canary Wharf.

We welcome applications from all sections of the community and geographical locations in Great Britain.

Closing date: 28th May 2024

Interviews will take place via video conference the w/c  17th June 2024.

We are committed to promoting equality, valuing diversity and being inclusive in all our work as a health professions regulator.
